the joy of reading..

yep.. you read correctly.. but i don't mean reading anything academic like medical textbooks or anything to that tune.. that would actually be rather depressing..

i'm actually talking about books.. story books mind you that capture the imagination of a reader..
basically i'm referring to the upcoming harry potter which is supposedly going to be released today..

i dare say that i can't really be classed as an avid reader.. if anything my cup of tea would be more of comic books that kinda of thing.. but once in a blue moon.. i would pick up a book which may or may not turn out to be actually quite decent..

i can still remember my early reading activities.. it would be the small little thin books with a moral at the end of the story.. be it malay or english.. i still remember some of them.. Siapa Tamak Dia Rugi, Honesty , Courage, etc2

I think the first real book that i read would be.. Treasure Island.. reading about the notoriety of Long John Silver and what not.. can't really remember it now.. but i still have the book at home.. then i moved on to Enid Blyton's books.. Mr Pink Thistle(sounds so gayish) ( or was it Green. or patrick.. there was a Thistle i remember..) i had a whole collection of Enid Blyton and also a fair share of comic books.. i basically read quite a few during the early days.. like Sang Gedembai, Folk Stories of South East Asia, Tragedi berapa Oktober about a plane crash, Misteri Kuda tak berkepala.. etc2

Then i graduated to reading about The Fantastic Five, The Hardy Boys(not the ones in the WWF though..) and quite a few others.. This was also accompanied by an assortment of comics like Doraemon, Dragon Ball and Alam Perwira haha... still have most of these books at home though my mother gave away my Doraemon collection to my cousin who doesn't really know how to take care of those books..

Well.. i feel reading has actually enhanced my abilities of daydreaming.. haha.. i can say i quite thoroughly enjoy reading and i especially like mysteries and also books on history.
when i started MRSM in Form 4 .. my sister introduced me to The Hobbit the prequel to Lord of the Rings and it was very enamoring and absorbing.. i can honestly say that i read Lord of The Rings before there were any plans on making a movie on it.. at the time i wasn't even reading Harry Potter at all.. thought of it more of a children's book..
well coming back to The Hobbit and LOTR.. by Tolkien.. you couldn't help but be amazed by the author.. who managed to come up with an Elven language.. he is quite the story teller.. sometimes i would have to skip a few pages due to his fondness of describing every scene in rich detail.. too rich in my case..

well.. i would say the thing that made me started reading Harry Potter would be the first movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone..(or sorcerer's stone) if ur from America...
after that i started reading all the books and i think i set a record of reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince which was around 600 pages in maybe 12 hours.. i stopped for prayers , food and calls of nature.. i can say that the last book built the suspense for the last book and i can't really wait for it to come out.. i've pre booked the book.. so basically going to pick it up tomorrow.. so bracing myself for a reading marathon then..
try it sometime.. you'll find it satisfying insya-Allah..
reading = food for the brain..

p/s: you learn more from books about honour,courage,honesty and virtues than when you watch a sitting of the Malaysian parliament..
heck, you learn more moral values by watching the Transformers movie than from the Malaysian parliament..
